FAQ: All you need to know about WOW CUP

Are you thinking about buying the first WOW CUP and want to learn more? Or do you already have one but wondering how to clean it properly? Read the FAQ article to find out your answers!

What are the age ratings for the WOW products? 

We recommend starting using WOW CUP Mini from 6 months plus, WOW CUP Baby from 9 months plus and WOW CUP Kids from 12 months plus. WOW CUP helps with the earlier transition to a regular open cup but they are also great to use at preschool, school, or during athletic classes.

How to start using WOW CUP?

It is very easy to drink from WOW CUP and most of the babies and children figure it out immediately. However, please keep in mind that every child is different and be patient if it is taking them some time to figure it out! They will eventually get it and will enjoy it as their favorite cup. Here are some useful tips:

1. Make sure there is enough liquid in the cup.
2. Your child’s lip should be on the drinking edge, the upper lip on the silicon valve and the bottom lip on the contoured hard plastic drinking edge.
3. With gentle sucking action the liquid will flow between the silicone valve and the hard plastic drinking edge. Also keep in mind, the greater the suction, the greater the flow of liquid. In addition to a spill free function, the sucking helps to strengthen the tongue muscles and assists in improving a healthy oral development.

Can I use WOW CUPs with hot drinks?

We do NOT recommend using WOW CUPs with carbonated or hot beverages. Because the WOW Cup is a closed system pressure can build up inside the cup and cause the cup to leak. This is the case for most sippy cups in the market that are designed with a closed system function. The normal use temperature for the WOW CUP’s are ice cubes in liquid, to room temperature, to lukewarm (tepid) liquids. We do NOT recommend placing the WOW CUP in the freezer with liquid inside. Always add ice cubes to the liquid or refrigerate the cup with liquid or add refrigerated liquids to the cup. Also, never place the WOW CUP in a microwave to heat liquid.

How to clean the WOW CUP?

We recommend cleaning WOW CUP immediately after use. First, fully disassemble all parts and then either wash it by hand with warm soapy water or put it into the dishwasher using a delicate wash cycle, gentle soap and place it on a top rack. Please do not sanitize the cup by boiling methods and do not clean by using a steam or UV sanitizer machine.

I forgot milk in the WOW CUP and it now smells. Should I get a new cup? 

We get it, life’s sometimes busy and chaotic. So, if you forgot the WOW CUP full of milk or juice in a car or backpack and found it after a few days, you don’t have to throw it away and buy a new one because of sour milk or other beverage smell. Simply add a heaping teaspoon of baking powder to the open cup, fill it with hot water, stir it thoroughly and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then wash as usual. A more heavy-duty variation might have to be soaked overnight. Disassemble the cup, fill the bowl with warm water and add the baking powder (1 spoon per cup of water). Leave it overnight, then clean as usual – either in hand or in a dishwasher.

What are the WOW CUP’s made of? 

WOW CUPs are made from TRITAN, a high-quality food safe material that is PVC, BPA and phthalates free and therefore a healthy, durable and dishwasher-safe option. It is also odorless and tasteless. The silicone valve is made from high-quality food-grade silicone. For stainless steel bottles, we use 18-8 stainless steel for clean, anti-rust, toxin-free and flavor-free experience. What to do when you lose the silicone valve or your kids or pet damage it? 

We get it, accident happens, especially with the curious kids who can’t resist pushing their finger or pencil through the middle of the valve. We have you covered! If you lost the valve or your kid or pet damaged it, you can simply order a replacement here. Before you place an order, please check if you have the right size in your cart. WOW CUP Mini has a smaller valve dimension (2-1/2-inch diameter) than the other types of WOW CUPs (WOW Cup Kids and WOW Cup Baby) and Sports bottles (3-1/8-inch diameter).

What to do if my cup leaks?

We are sorry that you might be experiencing problems with our product. It does not happen often. First, please make sure that all three parts (or four if you have WOW CUP Mini or Sports bottle with a lid) are firmly in place and the silicone valve is snapped into the locking valve ring correctly. Then orient the cup up at an angle so there is water flowing inside of the valve assembly. Take one or two drinks from the cup by gently sucking on the edge of a rim. After one or two initial drinks, the valve will seat properly and there shouldn’t be any more leakage. Another method is to run your finger with firm pressure around the edge of the valve and make sure it is seated against the locking valve ring and then take a drink. It will remove the air and should solve the problem. If leakage occurs, please contact our customer support.
